Table Tennis is one of the most commonly played indoor sports around the world and is played in the Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The RA has transformed the Central Lounge area (overlooking Pickleball) into a welcoming, inclusive and fully accessible Table Tennis centre equipped with five (5) or six (6) tables on a competition sports floor for both the advanced players and beginners alike.
This new activity space welcomes volunteers who love the sport and who are committed to helping others and coaches who bring extensive experience, knowledge and technique. It offers players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to get involved through memberships, speciality programs, private instruction, training and table rentals.

SOCIAL PLAY DROP-IN SESSIONS
All Levels Season: October 3, 2023 to June 22, 2024 A great way to add additional playtime or meet new players. The Social Play Drop-In Sessions provide an opportunity for individuals to meet new players or play with their regular group in a more collaborative atmosphere. Individuals will be able to create own games, share tables and enjoy a relaxed social atmosphere. At this time, the weekday mornings and afternoon time slots have dedicated Volunteers to help support regular rotation, introductions and check-ins. The evening and weekend time slots are currently unsupervised, individuals are required to follow the playing rules of regular rotations and fair play. Please note registration is required to participate.

One-hour table rentals are open to everyone. Juniors 6 to 12 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult 18+. FEE (includes HST) : $16 per table Maximum 4 players per table CHECK-IN IS REQUIRED – Individuals who have booked are required to check-in at the East Member Services Desk BEFORE the start of their booking. MATCH PLAY
Beginner/Intermediate Play Match Play is designed for individuals to have the opportunity to play against others of their similar level. A coordinator will manage the rotation of players and will ensure fair playing time and challenging matches. The coordinator will assess your level to ensure challenging matches for everyone. Rules and etiquette will be taught as well as tips for beginners to improve your game! Introduction to Table Tennis Clinic These 4-week clinics are a great place to start as you enter the world of Table Tennis. 1 hour of coaching/week for four weeks in which you will learn basic shots, rules of the game and get information on equipment. We supply racquets and balls for these clinics. You provide energy and enthusiasm. Come dressed to move - comfortable workout clothing, non-marking runners and a water bottle. Introduction to Competition and Match Play Clinic Saturdays 5:00pm – 7:00pm This 4 week quick clinic will teach you everything you need to know from how to approach a competition, tactics in games, read of spins, serves and receiving as well as how to maintain composure during games. This clinic is designed to not be physically demanding, while the clinic does include some game play individuals will be stopping to talk strategies throughout. Stay tuned for more sessions. Recreational Program - 6 & 7 yrs old Introducing the Kid's Mini Ping program, specially designed for children ages 6-7. Our recreational table tennis program offers a fun and interactive experience for the little ones. Through engaging games and activities, our expert instructors focus on developing your hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and basic understanding of table tennis rules. In a supportive and encouraging environment, children will have lots of fun while building a strong foundation in the sport. Beginner Program - 8 - 13 yrs old Welcome to Kids Academy! This dynamic recreational table tennis program is designed for kids ages 8-13 as an introduction to the exciting world of table tennis. Our experienced Coaches lead structured training sessions that focus on technique, footwork and tactical play. Through age-appropriate activities and exercises, the kids will learn the basic rules, techniques, etiquette and will improve their hand-eye coordination skills. The program focuses on fostering a positive and encouraging environment, emphasizing teamwork and building self-confidence. Participants will participate in friendly competitions and team building exercises. High Performance ProgramsRegistration is by invitation only - HP training is designed for individuals with rating of 300+.
The players should be willing to participate and compete in tournaments or for someone looking to increase their skill development for the purpose of competing. The program promotes a positive, collaborative and competitive environment to allow tournament players to compete at their highest ability. Weekly sessions will be shaped around the main pillars: Physical, Technical, Tactical, Theoretical, Psychological and grass roots skill development. These sessions will be a mixture of game play, skill development, drills and tournament style play. Participants will also receive individual profiles and monthly reports explaining their developments and weaknesses to help them improve objectives and goals. TournamentsMINI TOURNAMENTS
These 2 hour - Mini tournaments will follow the same format as Canadian professional table tennis tournaments. Tournaments are run by a RA Table Tennis coach with a minimum of 6 players to a max of 10. Play will be 1 group of 6 to 10 players in a round-robin format, best of 5 sets. All individuals will play against everyone within the tournament. Open for Intermediate to advance players only. Stay tuned for future sessions! |

ABOUT JUAN
Juan Acosta has a degree in Sports Sciences (2016); in addition, he has diplomas in sports management from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (2020) and the Peruvian Institute of Sports (2017). As an athlete, Juan has held the title of National Champion in all categories in Peru and participated in numerous international tournaments, where he obtained the title of Bolivarian Champion in 2004. He participated in the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) in 2003, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 2007, and Guadalajara (Mexico) in 2011. University Olympic Games in Beijing (China) in 2001, and World Table Tennis Championships in Paris (France) in 2003. As a coach, Juan has dedicated himself to the improvement and development of table tennis students. He has the ITTF Level 3 coach certification (2020) and a certificate in the administration of ITTF table tennis institutions (2020). Join Juan in the world of table tennis! ABOUT PAULO
Level 2 Provincial Table Tennis Coach Paulo is proud to be one of the new Table Tennis coaches at the RA Centre for competitive players and currently coaches competitive players at national tournaments in Montreal and Toronto. Paulo was a national team member from 2004 to 2008. He was Canadian Senior National Champion in 2006 in the doubles category and North American Champion in doubles in 2007. He was also Junior Canadian National Champion in 2005 and 2006 in singles, teams, and doubles. Paulo has been representing Canada in various international tournaments around the world as a member of the junior and senior national team. Paulo has been coaching table tennis professionally for more than 10 years. He formed part of the provincial Ontario coaching team in 2012 and 2015 Canadian Table Tennis Championships and successfully helped the under-13 and under-15 teams to win the gold medal in doubles and teams. As a result, Paulo has the pleasure of coaching, drilling, and playing with top table tennis junior players across Canada. Paulo believes in the seriousness of the sport and his coaching style adjusts to all ages and categories. His athletic achievements include being an Ontario provincial champion in juniors from 2004 to 2007 and runner-up in the Senior Ontario championship in 2006. Paulo’s passion for coaching is equally as high as his passion for competing. His goal is to work with players to break barriers and improve their skills, so they achieve all their goals. ABOUT JULIA
Julia is a NCCP Certified Table Tennis Competition Introduction Coach and a certified Table Tennis Umpire. Julia is currently the Chair for Gender Equity Canada at Table Tennis Canada. Julia brings with her over 20 years of competitive table tennis experience as an advanced player playing locally and internationally. Formerly a top female junior in Canada representing Canada internationally and a finalist at the Commonwealth Games held in Bombay. Julia left competitive table tennis to raise a family and returned to rediscover her love of the sport. More recently, In 2018 Julia competed at the World Veteran Championships which had 4500 participants from all over the world. Winner of the Consolation Women s 55+ Doubles beating Japan in the finals. Julia has focused on coaching for over 7 years. In July 2022 she successfully organized a National Girls Table Tennis Training Camp for 14 of Canada’s elite female players from all across Canada. She has experience coaching both males and females, all skill levels and players of all ages. Julia continues to play and coach. Her passion for table tennis is contagious when you play her! ABOUT STEPHANE
Stephane is NCCP Certified Table Tennis Competition Introduction Coach and a certified Table Tennis Umpire. Stephane brings with him over 30 years of competitive table tennis experience as an advanced player playing locally and internationally. Formerly one of Canada’s top 12 men and as a senior continues to excel in his sport. In 2015 he was Ontario Men s Champion for 40+. In 2019 he was a finalist at the Canadian Nationals for Men s 40+ and in the same Canadian Nationals was the winner for Men’s 50+. In 2022 he won the Winter Championships held locally. Stephane was responsible for co-creating, managing and participating in a successful local table tennis league which ran from October 2022 to May 2023. He simultaneously created, managed and participated in a successful weekly ladder. Stephane has over 7 years of coaching locally and has also coached Para internationally. Stephane continues to demonstrate his passion for the game whether he is playing or coaching. He is bilingual and welcomes any skill level and any age. ABOUT IRYNA
Iryna hails from a family deeply rooted in sports. She inherited a passion for the game from her grandmother, who was a teacher of physical education, and her father, who served as her table tennis coach from an early age. She achieved numerous titles in her region and competed in the Ukrainian National Super League. She was Ukrainian Champion in Women's Doubles. Her passion for sports led her to pursue a Master's Degree at the National University of Sports of Ukraine in Kyiv, from 2005 to 2010, with a specialization in Table Tennis Coaching and Physical Training Teaching. With 14 years of coaching experience, she enjoys working with individuals of all ages. Iryna is a Certified Table Tennis Coach in both Europe and Canada. Iryna's coaching philosophy reflects her genuine love for the sport. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table tennis community, both as a coach and an athlete. Her fluency in both English and Ukrainian allows her to connect with a diverse range of students. In 2016, she added another title by becoming the Champion of Ontario in Women's Singles. Previously, she offered private coaching in Toronto. Iryna moved to Ottawa and continues her coaching job. Iryna Shevchenko's dedication to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle is an inspiration to many, and her accomplishments in the field of sports continue to inspire others to pursue their athletic dreams. ABOUT TONY
Tony graduated from Nipissing University’s Faculty of Education, qualified to teach elementary students and high school physical education. In addition, he graduated from Ottawa University with his Masters Degrees in Education. After 30 years of teaching and coaching various school sports, Tony is excited to share his expertise and love of table tennis with the RA. As a member of British Columbia’s Junior Team in 1983, Tony has worked with provincial and national level coaches to develop a strong understanding of TT. He has worked with Canada’s National Para Team for three years, participated in various TT leagues, competed at the Canadian TT Championships, umpired at the Para TT Canadian Championships and successfully operated a local TT club in Ottawa for 15 years. Tony is currently working on achieving his Level 1 Coaching Certification and looks forward to working with all ages of people interested in learning the beautiful game of TT. |
