FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Shooting Federation of Canada joins the House of Sport’s Growing Community of Sport Organizations

(Ottawa, ON) April 06, 2017 - The RA is excited to announce that the Shooting Federation of Canada is joining the House of Sport, currently under development at the RA Centre’s Riverside Drive campus. The House of Sport offering provides National (NSO) and Multi-Sport (MSO) organizations the opportunity to house their administrative offices in a feature rich environment designed for collaboration, innovation and efficiency – a first of its kind in Canada.

Target Shooting is a well-established and highly respected international sport. It was part of the first modern Olympics in 1896 and has been part of every Summer Olympic Games since. Women’s disciplines were first included in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. World Championships were held for the first time in 1897 in Lyon, France, and in 1966 shooting events were included, for the first time, in the Commonwealth Games at Kingston, Jamaica. The 2016 RioGames included 15 Olympic Target Shooting events and 12 Paralympic events for men and women. The Shooting Federation of Canada is the national sport governing body for target shooting sports encouraging growth of the sport and supporting high performance athletes.

“Target Shooting sports require a high level of technical, physical and mental preparation. By joining the House of Sport project, the Shooting Federation of Canada will be able to access shared resources and support to help develop a progressive administrative system for our organization,” offers Pat Boulay, Shooting Federation of Canada President.

In addition to a vibrant and connected sport community, the RA Centre is the site of the only commercial indoor range in Ottawa. Operating out of the range, the RA Gun Club provides over 400 adult and junior target shooters the opportunity to practice a variety of different rifle and pistol disciplines including airguns. “Shooting clubs are important to our sport as they provide and support the foundation for all of our athlete, coaching and officials programs,” Ms. Boulay goes on to explain. “The ability to workcooperatively at both grassroots and National levels allows our athletes, our programs and our sport to grow and flourish in Canada.”

“We look forward to welcoming the Shooting Federation of Canada to the House of Sport. Having an organization on-site that is committed to offering safe participation and competition will certainly enhance our members’ experience and enjoyment,” offers Tosha Rhodenizer, RA Chief Executive Officer. “This positive synergy will encourage target shooters to excel whether at the club level or on an international podium.”

The House of Sport will offer organizations an open concept community, but also support them with a wide range of services, and meeting rooms, leveraging economies of scale to drive down costs. This is on top of the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded organizations and access health and wellness opportunities for staff members. Information on additional sport organizations joining the House of Sport initiative will be released over the next few weeks.
