Major revisions to the RA’s Membership System

This summer, we are pleased to announce the launch of a major project to update the RA’s membership system.  This project, which is the culmination of many months of planning, is specifically designed to improve member’s convenience, and most importantly simplify the process of becoming a member.

Where we came from!
As most members know, choosing to join an RA Club required an individual to register and pay for both an Association Membership and a Club Membership each year.  Our existing membership system has served us well for many years however, the multi-tiered structure  limits our ability to expand our on-line registration and payment options and has significantly slowed our processing time.  Many members have asked for convenient services such as an ability to pay monthly and the ability to renew their membership on-line. By making these significant changes, we have launched the first step to being able to bring simplicity clarity and ease of registration to you, our members.

Membership System – Project Objective
In undertaking this project, the following framework was adopted to guide our decisions and always placed the member at the forefront of the design. We strive to:

  1. Simplify cumbersome membership processes for new and renewing members;
  2. Enhance convenience and offer affordability for members;
  3. Streamline systems to be able to better manage operations; and   
  4. Strengthen the RA membership message and value of belonging to the Association.


Key Features of the new Membership System

  • All current members will not be required to re-join the Association upon renewal with their Club. Members who continuously maintain their club membership will remain an Association member in good standing for the duration of their involvement with the RA.
  • All members who choose only Association memberships and are not part of a specific club or league, will continue to renew annually.
  • New members will be required to first join the RA by purchasing an Association Membership.  
  • Most Clubs will move to an annual membership (expiry date is one year from the date of purchase). This change allows us to extend to members a convenient and more affordable option to pay on a continuous pre-authorized monthly payment plan.
  • The vast majority of members will see a negligible change in their annual fees; however, some anomalies are bound to arise as we transition to this new system.  Member Services staff will review these files as they arise.  
  • As part of our normal course of business, we have completed a review of competitors to make sure that our fees remain competitively priced in the marketplace, while accentuating the added value the Association provides.
  • Our administrative and operational policies and practices are being revised to reflect the new membership model. These new policies and practices will be available for members to review and will be added to the RA website shortly.

     

PHASES

Planning:

Fall 2015 – Spring 2016

 

Implementation: 

Phase One – May 2016

Launched membership model with the Summer programs including: Rideau Tennis Club, LifeFIT, Squash, Badminton and Racquetball.
Launched expanded pre-authorized payment plan options.

Phase Two – July 2016
Launch membership model with new and renewing members in annual membership categories:
LifeFIT, Squash, Badminton, Racquetball and Curling

 

Phase Three – August/September 2016
Launch membership model with new and renewing members:
Clubs and House Leagues members

Phase Four – January 2017

Launch on-line renewal for all other membership categories
