Counsellors and CITs

Our Leadership Team recruits the very best! Every summer we have a great mix of new and returning staff who come from various backgrounds, and bring special skill sets and a desire to work with our campers.

Head Counsellors

Sarah Hobson

Sarah is extremely excited for yet another amazing summer as a Head Counsellor at RA Summer Camps. Before camp kicks off in the summer, Sarah attends Carleton University for Psychology.  You're most likely to find her out and about at the crack of dawn, rain or shine, doing anything and everything that includes the outdoors— especially if it means paddle boarding! This will be Sarah’s fifth summer that she will be working primarily with our Day campers. Sarah can't wait for camp to start and to meet all the new and old campers this year. She's really looking forward to wet and wild week and especially playing shark and sea turtle in the pool (bring your goggles and your sunscreen!).

Evan MacDonald

Evan is very excited to be returning for his second summer on staff, first as a Head Counselors within the sports and specialty camps at the RA. He is a recent graduate of Saint Mary's University in Halifax, where he studied Criminology and Psychology and played on the men's rugby team while obtaining his degree. Evan was born and raised in Nova Scotia and is a proud east coaster! Evan has worked and coached youth for a number of years in multiple sports, more recently he has worked with youth in the mental health field. He is counting down the days for camp and can't wait to be back with the campers to enjoy another awesome summer at RA Camps!

Melanie Turabian

Melanie, or better known as ‘Mel’ to all the campers and staff, is looking forward to returning to the RA Summer Camps for another exciting summer! Mel currently attends Carleton University, and is studying Cognitive Science with a Concentration in Neuroscience. She is also working towards a double major in Psychology and an additional Minor in Neuroscience (what a NEURd, am I right?). When she is not busy studying all about the brain, Mel enjoys sports, especially soccer and running. She also enjoys socializing with friends. Mel is returning for her fifth summer will be working with our Day Campers, and is most looking forward to meeting new campers, and getting to see the returners!
